We began operation in 1986 and our tour participants have come from across the world, USA, Canada, Germany, the UK, and every state of Australia. We have run programs for overseas students at Melbourne University, and bush camping holiday programs for disabled adults in Victoria.
Our initial commercial operations focused on 4-wheel drive Outback tours. However, it seemed that this was a crowded market with many opportunists diluting the quality of tour experiences and staying briefly in this field.
Following discussions with staff at Caravan World and Outdoor Life magazine we invited magazine readers to join us for Outback tours in their caravans. This was an overwhelming success, and since that time Aussie Outback Tours has been the leading operator of caravanning and motorhome tours in Australia.
We have a strong reputation for environmental consciousness. We have sponsored working bees to clean up Victorian deserts, provided consultancy to the 4 Wheel Drive Clubs movement and have provided supported Outback tours for:
Our extensive experience has been instrumental in the provision of caravan guides for Australian travellers. Several major works have been prepared by Lloyd Junor, director of Aussie Outback Tours. These are the award-winning Caravanning Outback Australia, published by Aussie Outback Publishing, referred to by some as 'the caravanners' bible'; and Caravan and Camping, published by Gregory's.
Lloyd was Outback travel consultant to Penguin Books Australia, especially for their major books 'Explore Australia by 4-Wheel Drive' and ‘Explore Australia’. Lloyd has hosted a weekly program on 4WD and Outback travel on commercial radio in Melbourne.
